Dressing EMMA's public sculptures
EMMA may grant permission to temporarily dress public artworks in its collections for non-commercial purposes, provided the activity has a significant connection to EMMA or the city of Espoo. Each request is reviewed on a case-by-case basis. All sculptures are protected by copyright law, which prohibits altering or otherwise compromising the artistic value of a work. EMMA ensures that any dressing complies with the law and coordinates the proposal with the artist or other copyright holder.
Permission to dress artworks must be applied for in writing to EMMA in advance. Before submitting an application, applicants must consult EMMA’s Technical Conservator, Simo Karvinen (simo.karvinen@emmamuseum.fi), regarding the safe implementation of methods and materials. A free-form application should then be sent to EMMA’s Specialist, Katja Oijusluoma (katja.oijusluoma@emmamuseum.fi), or Coordinator of Collections, Lotta Hannuksela (lotta.hannuksela@emmamuseum.fi), at least two months before the proposed implementation date.
The application must include the following details:
- The purpose and objective of dressing the artwork
- The elements to be added to the artwork, including materials and attachment methods. If possible, include an image of the proposed outfit.
- Working methods and any necessary equipment (e.g. lifts)
- The planned dressing and removal dates
- The team executing the project
If permission is granted, the process must be carried out under the supervision of EMMA staff or a party designated by EMMA. Scheduling must be agreed upon in advance for weekdays between 9 am and 4 pm. The applicant is responsible for any additional necessary permits, as well as for all arrangements and costs associated with the project. EMMA charges a processing fee of €150 per permit and applies its price list for the supervision of the work.
