Immersed in a world of emotions and sensations, the film follows a couple chatting in a car in an ordinary French suburb. Suddenly, two police officers interrupt them and arrest one of the protagonists to carry out a body search.

Untitled (New Way) is a silent piece by the American artist Rashaad Newsome which renders the moving body sculptural, or like a drawing in space, whilst relishing the cultural specificity and artistry of voguing.

Karin Hellman (1915–2004) was an innovative and unconventional pioneer of Finnish modernism, yet her work remains unfamiliar to many.

EMMA’s media art space hots up in summer 2023 with Wong Ping’s Stop Peeping, a vibrantly colourful animation executed in crude pop-style imagery.

Jesper Just examines the complexities of human relationships in his short films. Like many of his works, The Lonely Villa examines minority cultures, gender stereotypes and inter-generational relationships.

Pilvi Takala’s Close Watch takes a critical look at how power is exercised in public spaces through the private security industry. The multi-channel video installation is based on the artist’s experiences during her six-month employment and research while working covertly for the security company Securitas as a fully qualified security guard.

Dora Budor’s installation comprises a large space inside which a lone robotic bird flies. The bird’s trajectory is based on a motion vector derived from composer Magnus Lindberg's music score.

The Fantastic by Maija Blåfield is an exploration of the relationship between imagination and reality as it manifests in how we encounter the unknown.

Chiharu Shiota  has created an immersive installation for EMMA consisting of tautly crisscrossing threads. The work invites the viewer to delve deep inside the web of threads while journeying into one’s memories and self.

Black Bullets (2012) is on display in the media space of Touch exhibition. The video work is a tribute to the Haitian revolution where slaves rebelled against the colonial government in 1791.

Created by twelve artists and two artist groups, the works featured in the exhibition use ceramic art to explore the juncture of past and future, one that is characterised by environmental concern and the disintegration of social structures. The exhibition is produced in collaboration with Ornamo Art and Design Finland. 

Daniel Buren has taken over EMMA’s exhibition space and created an entirely new work for EMMA. Buren's site-specific work builds on the horizontal and open features of the museum’s architecture, along with its natural light.

Wonderland is on display in the media space of Touch exhibition. In the video, a deaf boy called Muhammed uses gestures and sounds to describe the experiences his family went through when escaping the war.

The exhibition Konrad Mägi – The Enigma of Painting includes the finest in the artist’s oeuvre, highlighting Mägi’s power of expression, and his exceptionality both as a remarkable colourist and in relation to his contemporaries.
