EMMA – Espoo Museum of Modern Art, the largest art museum in Finland, is the perfect day-trip destination for lovers of art, design and architecture, just a few metro stops from the city centre of Helsinki. EMMA offers cultural experiences for visitors of all ages, whether you’re exploring with children, interested in Finnish design and architecture, or seeking fresh perspectives through contemporary and modern art.
At EMMA, art, design and architecture come together in a truly unique way. The museum is located in Tapiola, Espoo’s iconic garden district, inside the concrete landmark Exhibition Centre WeeGee, designed by architect Aarno Ruusuvuori, which is an architectural attraction in its own right.
Exhibitions, Guided Tours and Experiences for All Ages
This summer, EMMA presents in total of seven exhibitions, all included in one admission ticket. Textile art enthusiasts are especially in for a treat. A solo exhibition by Karin Hellman, a pioneer of Finnish collage art, showcases her colorful and distinctive works. In the adjacent exhibition space, you’ll find material based art in the spirit of the Italian-born Arte Povera movement, highlighting works by international female artists from modernism to today. Draped exhibition celebrates the art of printed fabrics in a vibrant display. Spot nostalgic patterns or discover your new favorites!
EMMA’s permanent collection exhibitions are a must for fans of Finnish design and modern and contemporary art. Collection Kakkonen features an exceptional collection and a true design treasure trove consisting of Finnish glass, ceramics and ryijy tapestries by businessman Kyösti Kakkonen. Dialogues exhibition from the Saastamoinen Foundation Collection, brings together Finnish and international contemporary art and modernism. Dive into the lives and legacies of iconic designer duo Rut Bryk and Tapio Wirkkala in the open archive and viewing storage Bryk & Wirkkala Visible Storage.
With the same ticket, you can also explore other gems at the WeeGee Exhibition Centre:
