Tuesday 15 October 1PM–3PM | Map of Figures

The workshop begins with a discussion about the boundaries and connections that we can find in artworks. We’ll then turn our focus to the participants themselves: what contours, colours and shapes exist between us? After the initial conversation, we’ll explore our shadows and experiment with how shadows and colours can reflect emotions, such as a sense of calm. Together, we’ll create a collective piece by tracing the outlines of each participant’s shadow on a large piece of paper. We’ll conclude by drawing, writing and colouring various connections between the figures. The result will be a vivid and colourful map of figures.

Art Break is a guided workshop. Remember that children should always attend Art Break with an accompanying adult.

The workshop will be held in Finnish and English.

Participation and supplies are included in the museum entrance fee (20/10 €, free entry for ages under 18).

Wednesday 16 October 1PM–3PM | On the Trail of Traces

Come on a journey of exploration through the museum space! What kinds of creatures might have roamed EMMA over the years, and what might have been long before? We’ll investigate the traces found in the museum and ponder who could have left them. These discoveries will be documented by tracing them onto paper. We’ll finish with a sensory treasure hunt, observing the museum space with all our senses. Can you find something soft, warm, tinkling, or whirring? Observations will be recorded in booklets to take home.

Thursday 17 October 1PM–3PM | What Do You Remember?

We all experiencing art in our own way. In this workshop, we’ll explore together the colours, lights and shapes of the artworks in the museum. How do the participants’ memories and interpretations of the works differ? We’ll begin by discussing the emotions and thoughts that art can evoke. Then we’ll recreate the artworks from memory using collage techniques and recycled materials. What do colour, light, and form tell us, and how do they shape our experience of art?

Friday 18 October 1PM–3PM | Moving Sculptures

Movement surrounds us constantly. What kinds of movement can we find in EMMA? We’ll use physical exercises to engage with the works in the exhibitions. We’ll start by drawing inspiration from the intriguing forms of the artworks – how might we replicate them using only our bodies? We’ll conclude by creating soft sculptures from foam plastic, capturing moments of movement frozen in time.
