FUNCTIONAL CAPACITY – Free Performance Art Workshop for People Aged 60 and Over
Australian theatre-maker and director Tamara Searle and video and sound artist Olli Valkola will lead a free two-week workshop for people aged 60 and over at EMMA. You do not need any previous experience in performance art to take part.
Workshops will include movement and sound improvisation and multimedia experiments. Together, we will joyfully challenge and complicate how older adults are represented in art and society.
The project begins with a core question:
What happens when we stop measuring human bodies by economic productivity, physical efficiency, and independence—and instead evaluate them by their capacity for pleasure, relationship, and presence?
The workshop runs for two weeks, with sessions taking place daily from Tuesday to Friday.
Two sessions are offered each day, and you may attend either one or both.
Session 1: Tue–Fri, 11.00 am–12.30 pm
Session 2: Tue–Fri, 1.30–3.00 pm
The workshops will be conducted in English. Interpretation into Finnish will be available if needed.
Please register by 1 December here. For further information, contact info@emmamuseum.fi.
Participation is free of charge. EMMA is an accessible museum.
FUNCTIONAL CAPACITY is supported by Taike (the Arts Promotion Centre Finland) and EMMA.
