Spring Festival: Performance by the Jade Community’s Chinese-language Dance Group
Welcome to enjoy two dance performances by the Jade community’s Chinese-language dance group, celebrating the New Year and the arrival of spring.
The dance Good Beginning refers to an auspicious start to the New Year or a new phase in life. In traditional Chinese culture, red is a festive color, and hanging red lanterns during the Chinese New Year symbolizes good fortune and prosperity. The Blessing Song dance is associated with birthdays, when people sing songs about the beauty of life and dance to wish the celebrant health and longevity.
The Spring Festival, also known as Chinese New Year, Lunar New Year, or Chūnjié in Chinese, is one of the most important celebrations in Asia. It is observed according to the lunar calendar, usually between January 21 and February 20. In China, the festival lasts about 15 days and concludes with the Lantern Festival. Traditionally, it marks the beginning of spring, family reunions, and rituals to welcome the New Year with good luck.
