Kietoutumia (Intertwinings) unfolds throughout EMMA’s exhibition spaces as an interwoven encounter between two bodies and the visual arts. Combining contemporary vocal music and improvised contemporary dance, soprano Meeri Pulakka and dance artist Sofia Keto-Tokoi explore themes of intimacy, touch, memory, longing and mortality. Moving through the gallery spaces, the performance allows visitors to immerse themselves in individual moments or follow the work in its entirety.

The programme features solo vocal works by Enno Poppe, Carola Bauckholt and Rebecca Saunders, as well as Lunula, composed by Aino Tenkanen for the duo. Set to texts by Hara Hermunen, the work integrates dance as an inseparable part of the composition. Pulakka and Keto-Tokoi have been closely involved in the compositional process. In Lunula, an equal, open and interactive dialogue between artistic disciplines takes shape in a unique way. This approach forms an important foundation for both the duo’s artistic practice and the performance.

How does movement relate to the surrounding artworks? Does singing sound different in this context? Do the colours and forms of the artworks become more pronounced in new ways? The performance invites audiences to reflect on questions such as these.
