Draped – Art of Printed Fabrics
Draped – Art of Printed Fabrics exhibition will wrap EMMA’s exhibition galleries in vibrant colours and fascinating patterns of printed fabrics. The exhibition highlights printed fabrics by exceptional artists since the 1930s, and views them through the lens of art.
Printed fabrics are an integral part of Finnish design and everyday life; the patterns cover our homes, clothes our bodies and create memories. They touch us, communicate, convey meanings, and evoke memories. Through them, we have shaped identities and individuality, as well as a sense of security and belonging.
The exhibition opens in a space surrounded by the Bryk & Wirkkala visible storage, where changing exhibitions bring the life’s work of Rut Bryk and Tapio Wirkkala into dialogue with design classics and contemporary artists.
Draped delves into the art of printed fabrics through the works of Viola Gråsten, Fujiwo Ishimoto, Raili and Juhani Konttinen, Marjatta Metsovaara, Anja Terho and Edward Terzibasiyan, among others. It also includes lesser-known print designs by Rut Bryk and Tapio Wirkkala.
