Launched in 2025, EMMA–Saastamoinen Curatorial Fellowship Programme is a three-year initiative supporting curatorial research, international exchange, and professional development. Each year, one international curator is selected via open call for a paid curatorial research period in Finland.

Designed for curators at any career stage, the programme offers a unique opportunity for curators around the world to engage with one of Finland’s most significant collections of contemporary and modern art, develop independent research, and collaborate with EMMA’s curatorial teams in a supportive and dynamic museum environment.

Applications for the second edition of the EMMA-Saastamoinen Curatorial Fellowship (2026–2027) were open from 13–30 October 2025. The third edition will be announced in 2026!

About the programme

EMMA-Saastamoinen Curatorial Fellowship Programme offers curators the opportunity to delve into research related to one of Finland’s most significant art collections, become acquainted with professional practices at EMMA as part of the exhibition and collection teams, and build networks within the Finnish art scene.

During the programme, each fellow produces a research-based article that reflects their engagement with Saastamoinen Foundation Art Collection. At the end of the fellowship period, articles will be published on EMMA’s online platform, EMMA Zone, and later included in a compiled publication featuring all fellowship participants. EMMA Zone offers a space for reflection, curiosity, and discovery through thematic zones featuring articles, artist videos, and behind-the-scenes stories. Fellows are also encouraged to explore innovative collection-based curatorial approaches to support the renewal of the Saastamoinen Foundation Collection Exhibition.
