Espoo Museum of Modern Art

Hop aboard our time machine and join us on a journey back to the fabulous nineties! This year, the super-popular Children’s Museum Festival transforms Tapiola’s museums into a weekend-long nineties party on 15–16 March, 2025. The nostalgic programme features the legendary Jokeri Pokeri Box magic show, ventriloquist Sari Aalto, Moomin aerobics, the AnnanHouse Disco, and creative nineties-themed activities!

The event takes place at the Exhibition Centre WeeGee, EMMA Espoo Museum of Modern Art, KAMU Espoo City Museum, Leikki the Museum of Play, and the Finnish Museum of Horology and Jewellery Kruunu. The programme also extends to Espoo School of Art and the Arkki School of Architecture for Children and Youth as well as the courtyard.

The wildly popular AnnanHouse Disco from Annantalo returns to the Children’s Museum Festival! DJ Nicolas Sebastien spins top 90s hits. Start with dance performances by children from Espoo Dance Institute, including Ponies and Teenage Turtles on Saturday, and Ponies and Yo-Yos on Sunday. Learn the moves to Macarena and join the fun!

Meet Mr. Clutterbuck

Come say hello to Mr. Clutterbuck! The beloved sleepwalking character from Mauri Kunnas’ books welcomes visitors at the Exhibition Centre WeeGee’s lobby. Mr. Clutterbuck is excited to meet festival-visitors and pose for photos. A 90s-themed photo wall is also available for capturing festive memories.

 

Rest Corner

The festival buzz can be tiring, so make your way to the Rest Corner on the basement level for a moment of peace. The space is tucked away from the main path to ensure tranquility. Follow the signs, leave your shoes at the entrance, and relax on soft mats and beanbags under dim lighting. Ear protectors are available for children. It’s the perfect spot for a nap, reading a book, or just taking it easy before returning to the festivities.

 

Bring 90s Patterns to Life – Graphic Art Workshop

Explore iconic 90s patterns and textile design featuring geometric shapes, bold contrasts, and neon colors. Try out collage techniques and create your own artwork inspired by the aesthetic of this vibrant decade. The workshop is suitable for all ages and requires no prior experience. Possuarkkitehtuuria – Postmodern Architecture Workshop

U got the look! Style yourself in a fabulous 90s outfit and capture a lovely festival memory. At the photo wall, you’ll find retro watches, jewelry, and other props to perfect your 90s look.

 

MM95 Table Hockey Studio

Den glider in! Relive the excitement of the iconic 90s hockey celebration at the MM95 Table Hockey Studio in museum Leikki’s workshop. Master passes and saves like the famous Finnish “Tupu-Hupu-Lupu” line and goalie Myllys, and join fun table hockey tournaments judged by the Finnish Table Hockey Association. Tournament times are 12 pm, 1 pm, and 2 pm, with casual play available outside these times.

The beloved Trolls, Turtles, and Tamagotchis are back! Come celebrate the most iconic toys of the 90s at museum Leikki’s 90s Corner Pop-Up exhibition.

Collect them all! The most coveted Kinder Surprise toys of the 90s have escaped into museum Leikki’s exhibition space. Hunt down these adorable runaways and take part in a toy raffle!

Hobby Horse Track

Feeling a bit horse-crazy? Hop on a hobby horse and put your skills to the test on the obstacle course. Practice different gaits, weaving, and jumping over hurdles. Ride safely and be sure not to let your horse get spooked!

Espoo City Library’s Activity Bus Välkky is parked in front of the festival for the weekend. Browse its collection of children’s books from the 90s – from horse series to Mauri Kunnas’ picture books. Come borrow one or more books!
