Tapio Wirkkala – Form

EMMA is proud to present Form, a show curated by architect Juhani Pallasmaa that explores Tapio Wirkkala’s sculptural output. Produced in collaboration with the Tapio Wirkkala Rut Bryk Foundation, the show highlights Wirkkala’s unique range as a hugely versatile artist and designer.

Tapio Wirkkala (1915–1985) is a leading figure in the trajectory of modern Finnish design. He was uniquely gifted across the various fields of applied and fine art, using a range of materials and scales in his work.

The exhibition examines Wirkkala’s sculptural output and its influence on his work as a designer. Alongside sculpture, the exhibition highlights Wirkkala’s characteristic approach in the practical field of product design. Wirkkala was a visionary who used and developed new methods and means of manufacture, both in his unique sculptures and in industrial mass production.
