April Jazz Club + WeeGee: Teemu Viinikainen
In guitarist Teemu Viinikainen’s solo concert, the warm sound of an acoustic orchestral guitar combined with modern technology produces a wonderful and broad soundscape that has been internationally acclaimed. Expressive power, swing and virtuosity are key elements of Viinikainen’s playing, but the main sensations when listening to him are a strong presence, sensitivity and a beautiful guitar sound.
Viinikainen’s artistic career includes the renowned U-Street All Stars band and Teemu Viinikainen III’s Emma nomination for Jazz Album of the Year 2017, but perhaps his greatest merit is that he is in high demand as the guitarist of choice for many top bands. Viinikainen has also performed successfully with top international names such as Joe Lovano, Vince Mendoza, Randy Brecker, Dave Liebman, Tim Hagans and Jeff Tain Watts.
Teemu Viinikainen released his first solo guitar album Songs of Silence in November 2022. The songs on the album are solo arrangements of well-known artists such as Thelonious Monk and Charles Mingus and were recorded with samples and loops. The long-awaited album received four stars from Helsingin Sanomat.
April Jazz Club + WeeGee is a series of intimate concerts in museum surroundings. The series is a co-production between April Jazz Club, Exhibition Centre WeeGee and EMMA.
