Antti Kytömäki: Falls

Antti Kytömäki’s installation is shown as part of SEB's and EMMA’s series of new collection works that will be presented for the first time in the SEB lobby area. Entry is free of charge!

In Antti Kytömäki’s kinetic installation Falls, satin ribbons draw a perpetually changing, yet repetitive pattern on a white background. The ribbons come to life, garnering new meanings as they move. The installation is part of SEB’s and EMMA’s series of new collection works that will be presented for the first time in the SEB lobby area. Entry is free of charge!

Antti Kytömäki (b. 1979) is a Helsinki-based visual artist, who works primarily with mechanical pieces. In his works, he studies sound, repetition, movement and the endless possibilities of new variations. Improvisation and experiments with materials play a crucial role in Kytömäki’s design process, as they guide the final form of the works.

Kytömäki’s works are visually explicit and minimalistic, yet their form leaves the door open for the viewer’s interpretation. The work, Falls evokes an image of a drawing or nature-like trajectory, such as a tornado or the wave motion of the sea. The circular movement gives the piece a hypnotic character.

Kytömäki graduated as Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of the Arts Helsinki’s Academy of Fine Arts, where he is currently finalising his master-level studies at the Department of Sculpture. He has also studied in the Nordic Sound Art study programme during 2014–2015.

As part of a collaborative venture between EMMA and SEB (Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken), a series of works recently added to EMMA’s collection will be exhibited in the lobby of SEB’s headquarters. SEB embraces the belief that creativity, innovation and courage are critical in building a better world. EMMA is in turn an art museum that strives to engage the community and offer powerful encounters with art: we reach out and bring art to where people are.
