Structure
The programme consists of an lead-in exercise, a guided tour at the museum, and a follow-up assignment. The lead-in exercise prompts students to examine works of art from different perspectives and awakens their curiosity about art. The tour at the museum showcases the many ways one can look at art. Students also get to share their experiences with others in the group. The tour ends with a playful test to see what kinds of art lovers we are. The follow-up assignment is designed to encourage students to continue exploring art in their everyday environment, and to look for aspects in art that speak to them.
Contents
The KULPS tour introduces students to art using participatory activities. Although the main content is the same for every grade, the tour will be adapted to suit different age levels. The KULPS tour at EMMA explores the Saastamoinen Foundation collection. The tour can also include a brief stop at the temporary exhibitions, if requested in advance.
Objective
The KULPS tour is designed to help students understand different artistic techniques and methods. The aim is to learn to understand the messages of art and how they relate to the student’s own life. It supports in particular the learning foundations L1, L2 and L4 of the curriculum.
