Monika Sosnowska´s exhibition at EMMA presents six large-scale sculptures that enter a dialogue with the exhibition space.

Produced in collaboration with the Tapio Wirkkala Rut Bryk Foundation, Form highlights Wirkkala’s unique range as a hugely versatile artist and designer. The exhibition is curated by architect Juhani Pallasmaa.

With Mashes of the Afternoon the German artist Loretta Fahrenholz pays homage to the legacy of experimental feminist cinema. The result is a collective mash-up of numerous online remakes of Maya Deren’s seminal film Meshes of the Afternoon.

A deep fascination towards the natural sciences and in-depth exploration of subjects are highlighted in Katarina Reuter’s layered paintings that feed the imagination. The exhibition is part of the Fine Arts Academy of Finland Prize received by Reuter in 2022.

EMMA presents the colourfully imaginative, experimental work of a designer who has left a long-term mark on Finnish design, Yrjö Kukkapuro. Besides looking back at Kukkapuro’s design career, the exhibition pairs his designs with his beloved, long-term source of inspiration: art.

EMMA’s media art space hots up in summer 2023 with Wong Ping’s Stop Peeping, a vibrantly colourful animation executed in crude pop-style imagery.

Jesper Just examines the complexities of human relationships in his short films. Like many of his works, The Lonely Villa examines minority cultures, gender stereotypes and inter-generational relationships.

Pilvi Takala’s Close Watch takes a critical look at how power is exercised in public spaces through the private security industry. The multi-channel video installation is based on the artist’s experiences during her six-month employment and research while working covertly for the security company Securitas as a fully qualified security guard.

Dora Budor’s installation comprises a large space inside which a lone robotic bird flies. The bird’s trajectory is based on a motion vector derived from composer Magnus Lindberg's music score.

The Fantastic by Maija Blåfield is an exploration of the relationship between imagination and reality as it manifests in how we encounter the unknown.

The exhibition explores the complex interactions between art, technology and nature.

Chiharu Shiota  has created an immersive installation for EMMA consisting of tautly crisscrossing threads. The work invites the viewer to delve deep inside the web of threads while journeying into one’s memories and self.

Black Bullets (2012) is on display in the media space of Touch exhibition. The video work is a tribute to the Haitian revolution where slaves rebelled against the colonial government in 1791.

Created by twelve artists and two artist groups, the works featured in the exhibition use ceramic art to explore the juncture of past and future, one that is characterised by environmental concern and the disintegration of social structures. The exhibition is produced in collaboration with Ornamo Art and Design Finland. 

Daniel Buren has taken over EMMA’s exhibition space and created an entirely new work for EMMA. Buren's site-specific work builds on the horizontal and open features of the museum’s architecture, along with its natural light.

Wonderland is on display in the media space of Touch exhibition. In the video, a deaf boy called Muhammed uses gestures and sounds to describe the experiences his family went through when escaping the war.

The exhibition Konrad Mägi – The Enigma of Painting includes the finest in the artist’s oeuvre, highlighting Mägi’s power of expression, and his exceptionality both as a remarkable colourist and in relation to his contemporaries.

The new video installation Biblion (2019) by Saara Ekström and Eero Tammi is premiered in EMMA’s media space. The work examines the medium of the book, exploring its hypnotic and layered essence as a carrier of changing, growing and disappearing information. Duration: 13 min

Painting Machine, a mesmerising performance-installation that combines magic with visual art, is the first collaboration by Leena Nio, a visual artist renowned for her multilayered paintings, and Kalle Nio, visual artist, magician and theatre director.

The solo exhibition of sculptor Aaron Heino (b. 1977), recipient of the Fine Arts Academy of Finland Prize in 2019 is now on view at EMMA.

New exhibition at EMMA by Elmgreen & Dragset will mark the renowned artist duo's 25th anniversary of their collaboration.

During the summer, EMMA will feature a selection of delightful ceramic animal figures. The playful environment designed by contemporary artist Lotta Mattila (b. 1986) will display animals created by ceramic artist Michael Schilkin (1900–1962).

Ilona Niemi's new work is on display in a fence surrounding a construction site in front of the Exhibition Centre WeeGee. The artwork is a collection of 28 soulful creatures based on Finnish mythology.

IC-98’s, i.e. Patrik Söderlund’s and Visa Suonpää’s, spatial artwork will be featured in the approximately 400-square exhibition space of EMMA as part of the collection exhibition Touch.

Anni Puolakka's work is on display in the media space of Touch exhibition. Staged as a conversation with an artificial intelligence chatbot, Diamond Belly explores love and companionship between a human artist, the bot and mosquitoes.
